accessing DB2 table from sql server and asp.net page

Hi ...
I have successfully installed Db2 client configuration tools in sql server and then created a link server to db2 server . I am correctly selecting IBM db2 provider through provider name dropdown in create link server dialog box (general tab) . However , I am unable to fill the data for 3 requirements ...1)product name (Is this db2 database name ?) 2) Data source (What is this ) 3)provider string ...(I tried various combinations ...But didn't succeed)(The msdn has given example of creating linked server like <code>

This example creates a linked server named DB2 that uses the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2.

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @.server='DB2', @.srvproduct='Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2', @.catalog='DB2', @.provider='DB2OLEDB', @.provstr='Initial Catalog=PUBS;Data Source=DB2;HostCCSID=1252;Network Address=XYZ;Network Port=50000;Package Collection=admin;Default Schema=admin;'

</code>

Then in Security tab I gave remote login and password

However I am unable to get tables view for the db2 database in sql server . It is showing errors like initialisation ....Provider DB2OLEDB etc... Can anyone pl help .
Is there any other way ?

Bhat

Rather thanNetwork Address=XYZ I believe you need to substitute an IP address for theXYZ.
|||Ya that's obvious ... I had given Ip Address of DB2 server ...|||Resolved ,

Access XP to SQL 7 Linked Tables

Basically, I want to 'link' the tables for record modifications, entries, et
c., so that the client (within a WAN) has the GUI front-end that he/she is a
ccustomed to (Access). ODBC seems old and slow, and I wanted to try somethi
ng new - ADO/ADOX/OLEDB? I
s there an easy way to make the connection, iterate through the tables (NOT
the sql system tables) that automatically includes the columns and maintains
that 'link' or connection while the AccessXP GUI front-end is open? This w
ould, of course, need to be
able to support multiple users at the same time.
Right now I get a "Compile error: user defined type not defined" on the fir
st line, but was hoping this was getting close...
THANK YOU!

But, at least I'm not getting things like "You need to make sure you've se
lected the right library." and I keep trying to tweak and search forever.
Thanks again. I'll go back to the odbc file dsn.
Speaking of which, what I thought I could avoid in the first place, I've got
the mdb on a file server and the sql odbc file dsn in the same folder. Two
people can open the file fine, but one gets an odbc failed error with no co
de or description. All are
running same os, same office version, with same version of sql odbc driver (
2000.81.9042.00)
Any clues?

Back when I was doing Access development, then migrated to Access - SQL
Server integration, I always preferred placing Access on the desktop for a
"true" client/server solution. While it takes more time, work, and testing
to get it right you'll have a far more robust solution.
If you have not discovered this book, I highly recommend getting this:

Access Upsizing Wizard Problems

My client uses an Access front end currently. He would like to link these tables to SQL Server because of the maintainability and recovery. I have used the upsizing wizard to do this and it linked the tables to a created database in SQL Server. However, there is a problem now with the Access front end. The front end used forms that had combobox bars. Now these bars come prefilled and when you try and change them, the machine just beeps at you. The same thing happens when I try to change the text boxes. I was wondering if anybody had ever seen this problem and what they did to fix it.

-Kyle

It depends on what all issues you are experiencing, if you use code to link the tables, etc.

The issue most likely is that the linked tables probably have different names then they had when they were Jet tables. The references to the controls are probably no longer valid. You would want to post your question on one of the Access forums for instructions on how to change your code.

-Sue

You are saying problem in accessing the front end, any error or warning during this behaviour?

As suggested you might check under MS Access related forums too.

About the Question i had asked ,

i found its solution and know what was the problem,

so i like to share it with You all ,

all i have done is setting the Reporting Services Configuration that was need to be configure

you can find it in the following path:

from the start menu ==> All program ==>Microsoft SQL Server 2005 ==>Configuration Tools ==>Reporting Services Configuration

in my case most of the configration Was invalid and not configure right so i Reconfigure it and then everything is great after that.

Access table link to SQL question

I have a SQL 7 database I want to link to from Access 2000. Previously this
database could be linked to over our local network by way of a WAN link. We'
ve just moved and now that WAN link has been severed and so I'm forced to re
establish the table link ov
er the internet. The SQL server and website exist on the same box and when I
enter the public IP address of the server into the input field labeled "wha
t server do you want to connect to?" in DSN setup, it won't accept it. What
do I have to do to establis
h a dsn to a database over the internet as opposed to a local network? One option would be to add an entry to your host file for
the server and it's IP address. Then configure the DSN with
the server name you put in the host file for the server.

Access mdb link tables

I need help to link my MSDE 2000 database with access 2000 *.mdb. When I try to do this and then I try to open a table, I can't see my data but just something like "#delete".
Thank you for helpYou may wish to include more information about your environment and the workstation on which you are seeing the issue. For example:

Were you previously able to link from the workstation without seeing the issue (if so, describe what has been done since then)? Are you able to do so from any other workstations using Access (if so, describe them) or is this a universal issue? What Access / MS Office, and MDAC service packs are currently installed?

{It may or may not be the case that applying the current MDAC and Office service packs, and subsequently relinking, (delete old links, recreate new ones) will address the issue on the workstation.}|||I just find the solution, just have to use int datatype against bigint, in SQL Server 2000. After this change everything is ok.

Thank you

Another Sql Server data type mapping to be cautious with in some versions of client software is bit. If a bit column is null in some rows, some front end applications do not always handle the situation gracefully (depending on what type the Sql Server bit column is mapped to in the front end app).

Access Link to SQL not updating

I have an SQL database with an old Access Front end.
I have linked the tables into access.
The first 6k or so records are updatable.
All new records are not updatable from Access.
I can update them via the enterprise manager.
I am using an ODBC connection as sa. So I feel that there shouldn't be a
security issue.
The error I get when trying to update newer records is the record locking
msgbox that saves save/copy/drop
But save is grey'd out.
I have an identity field as the primary key so I don't think theres a
problem with the uniqueness of the records.
Is that enough information?

Try adding a column to your table of datatype TimeStamp and re-link your
table from Access. Also, be sure to update your copy of Jet with the latest
Jet service pack.

access link table

Hi,All
I created a view in our SQL server database, which in the view I can delete
a record according to the cascade delete relationship. Now, we would like to
do it in Access database, so I created an ODBC link to our access database,
from access database I tried to delete the record as well, I got the error
message:
ODBC-delete on a linked table 'dbo_vwSpecialConcerts' failed.
[Microsofe][ODBC SQL Server Drive][SQL Server]View or function
'dbo.vwSpecialConcerts' is not updatable because the modification affects
multiple base tables. (#4405).
Any ideas to solve the problem ?
It's hard to say without knowing what's in the view, but I suspect
you'll need to perform the update against the base table(s) or create
a view with no joins.

Access denied error with reporting service (ReportViewer)

I have a web page that has ReportViewer control in it. I load a report to it and it comes there nice and everything is ok. In report I have a link that opens another web page from the same web site where the original page is located (lets say that the original is in http//MySite and the page opened from the link is in MySite/Dialogs/MyDialog.aspx). The new page is opened with javascript function window.open(...) This new page contains reportviewer control, too and it's populated by the parameters given in the link url.

When I open the dialog page in the computer that has the web page and the report server on the same computer everything runs smoothly. But when I try to use the application from another computer it doesn't work right. The main page and the report opens to the browser in a proper way but when I click to the link that should open the dialog new browser window is opened but the reportviewer gives http 401 access denied error with ServerReport.SetProperties method.

I have set impersonate=true to the web config and I'm administrator in both computers that are used. What's the problem here? In another evironment it works nicely, but when the web site is used from another computer it gets broken...

Does ur report server have any credentials that u need to pass?

|||

What credentials should you have? I'm using windows authentication in my web page (set in web.config). Does the report server has a user account that should be set to the control?

|||

Suppose if i am trying to access my sql server data base from a different computer, windows authentication wont let me get into it... u will need a Username and password.. like sa or something like...

So i think u would need the same thing for report server... if i specify local host and the reports are hosted on ur computer i dont need any username or password to get in to the report server .. Suppose if u want to access it from a different computer and then give local host ... its gonna look in the local server and naturally not let u in to the report server...

regards,

Karen

|||

The link url doesn't point to localhost. It has the name of the computer where the report server is running (like http//MyAnotherComputer/ReportPage/ReportDialog.aspx). So I'm not pointing to localserver at any time. Even in the environment where the the application is working I use the name of the computer in the link url.

|||

then instead of the machine name ... try giving the ipaddress of that machine and one more when u try to access... http:/ServerName/Reports... does it prompt you for a username and password to get into it and view the reports?

|||Why would it make any difference to set ip address instead of computer name? The computers are both in the sam domain so there shouldn't be any problem with that. I gotta try the second test first time when I get back to my development computer. I'll let you know the result then.|||Why would it make any difference to set ip address instead of computer name? Could it be possible that when I open another window from a report using a link, that the gredentials don't follow to the second window? If this is a case, what user account information should be forwarded to the dialog window? Should I use Web Service identity that is set for the Report Server? If I have set impersonate true in web.config, how does it affect to the behaviour of the control?|||I got this fixed! It seems that the application made a double hop. I made a mistake and called a report server on another computer instead of the one that was running on the web server.
