Access to the ADO.net Managed Provider SqlClientFactory was denied

In a previous post in Installation and Setup I was having problems just getting an ASP.NET 2.0 app to run on my web server. Now I'm having some different weird security issues.

I'm getting this message when just trying to open a database and put its contents into a gridview.

Access to the ADO.net Managed Provider 'SqlClientFactory' was denied in the data source with ID 'sqlEmployees' because of security settings.

I think this may have to do with our web server and our SQL server being separate machines. That always gives us issues. But I have impersonation=true in my web.config along with windows authentication and I have SQL Server configured with Windows and SQL authentication so things should be right, I'm thinking.

Any ideas??

I guess I stumped everyone. Thanks anyways.|||

Did you find the solution? If so please post it, so that it will help others :)

access rights

Hi,
I have many users and many databases in my Server 2000 installation. Each
user has only one database (with owner permission) and each database has one
owner. With mylittleadmin, I have no problems, each user can only see their
own database (which they have owner permisssion). But with web data
administrator, they can also see master and some other system databases
since they have guest permission. When one of these users connects the
server with enterprise management, things get worse. Users see ALL databases
eventhough they cannot reach them. I want users to see only their own
databases, not anobody elses. They cannot access the other databases, this
is ok but the other databases should not be listed as well. How can i solve
this?
Thanks. In Enterprise Manager you can't (in a supported way), they will always see
all the database names. This is being addressed in SQL2005's Management
Studio IIRC.

Access is denied: 'Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.CustomSecur

I am installing Reporting Services on a Veritas cluster environment on a
named Instance of SQL Server. The installation seems to go OK, but
afterwards when I try to call up the ReportManager I get this error:
Access is denied: 'Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.CustomSecurity'
I'm using a Domain Account with administrator privlidges, so I'm not sure
what to do next? Can anyone help?
thanksHere, I think, your report manager is somehow refering to custom
security extension which is configured in configuration files. Please
check if ur RM is pointing to proper server.
Thanks,
Mahesh

Access denied when Windows password changed

I have a local installation of SQL server (SqlServer 2000). The server
registration uses Windows authentication. When I change my Windows domain
password, I can`t start the server (Connect() failed).
As an emergency soloution, I changed my password back to the old one, but
this is not q real soloution.
What can I do to change password and still be able to connect ?
TIA

Milestone SystemsHi Boaz,
Seems to me you need to change the MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENT services
passwords.
You can get to these services from the administrtive tools (Start Menu >
Settings > Control Panels > Administritive Tools > Services).
Locate and double click on the services and in the "LogOn" tab you can
change the activation passwords.
I hope this will solve your problem.

Access denied on restart

The following error occures after installation of several
Hotfixes:
"The MSSQLServer service failed to start due to the
following error:
Access is denied."
It seems that the LocalSystem account cannot start the
MSSQL services. The service is temporarily started using
the domain admin account. I recently installed Hotfixes
KB824151, KB841533, KB840987, KB841356 en KB883935 on my
W2K SQL server, running SQL 7.0.
Before de-installing and restarting these hotfixes one-by-
one, i thought to have a try via this newsgroup.
TIA,
Wouter
Take a look in Books online... Search for Services Accounts.
There it details all of the requirements for permissions for the accounts...
The thing that is strange is that I have never , ever had any problems
starting SQL with localsystem...
If you have changed the account using control panel, services and are using
Full text search, you could cause a problem... In my opinion it is a best
practice to set up an account specifically for SQL Services login anyway...
Perhaps it is time you do that...

Thanks for you reply. The thing is, we also never, ever
had problems starting SQL with the LocalSystem account,
untill I installed the hotfixes. I'm pretty sure un-
installing the hotfixes will solve my problem, but that is
not the general idea behind hotfixes, is it?
Any other suggestions? If not I'll consider creating a SQL
Services login account.

Access Denied Error while Configuring

Hi,

I Installed SQL Reporting Developer edition on Windows 2000 Server.

After Installation, While Typing the Path http://localhost/Reports on the Browser, I am getting

Access to the Path "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\Reportmanager\bin" is denied Error.

What could be the Problem?

The User your IIS is running with doesn′t have access to the binary directory for the Resporting Server bin files. So either chnage your IIS Web Server account to a service account that has access to the bin files, or grant the already used account access to the directory.

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.
